The
paintings are done in acrylics, over which are tones and
layers of oil pastel, which creates rich areas of color. Then,
a layer of varnish is applied to preserve the painting. The subject
matter is usually based on some real person or place. It may
be a view of the artist's dining room or the lake outside the window; someone
in a newspaper or magazine photograph; or a piece of
purchased sculpture in the artist's collection. The artist has
interpreted that reality to create a new one that expresses the essence of the subject, often adding color where none exists.
